Black Friday - What You Should Know

Black Friday is a day we are all customary with, some may not be customary with the name, but it is that phenomenal day of the year that people drag themselves out of bed for sales that start before daylight. You guessed it; it is the day after Thanksgiving sale. The term black Friday has its origins in the early twenties when this shopping day of heavy frantic crowds was likened to the mass hysteria of the stock shop crash of 1924. In later years, the term was used by police officers and pointed to the traffic jams and masses of people rushing the stores. It was not until recently that the term came to mean the day on which retailers were in the black or turning a profit. At any rate, it is one of the busiest days of the Christmas buying season and as such, retailers will have heavy sales aimed at drawing crowds into the stores as early as four in the morning.

In order to get into stores, people have been known to camp out overnight so they can be the first ones in. To make matters worse retailers will often only receive a dinky number of big-ticket items that have been drastically reduced. This can lead to a free for all of people scrambling to get their hands on an item before they are sold out. There have been incidences of angry people turning violent to get the latest gadget or gizmo that there were only three of in the whole store. Barely controlled chaos is what many sell workers will call this day. Sounds like a whole lot of issue for very dinky advantage if you ask me. Generally, I stay away from the store the whole day but one year I decided it was time to see what all the fuss was about. I found out that many of the items on my list were still ready and on sale several hours after the preliminary rush and the items that were not there were very few and no opening of reaching the front of the line. Electronics were the worst, in our tiny branch I bet there were nearly one hundred people all vying for one of five laptops that were on sale. Needless to say, that was the last year I got up at three in the morning to go shopping.

Day Light Savings

With all the publicity and craziness people, tend to forget that there is someone else way to shop. Traditionally the Monday after Thanksgiving was notion to be the busiest online shopping day of the year, earning it the name Cyber Monday. This was probably because few people had broadband internet in the early part of 2000 so many would wait until returning to work after the holiday to do their online shopping. Things have greatly changed in the last few years and online retailers are now offering online sales on Thanksgiving Day! What could be better than relaxing at home with a hot cup of cocoa and doing your Christmas shopping in your pjs? That is a great start to the Christmas season if you ask me.

Daylight Savings Times - Why We Have It, Why We Should Have It, Why We Should Not

Daylight savings time - we have all heard of it. Most of us participate in it... But what exactly is daylight savings time, and why do we have it?

Daylight savings time was started so that we could "save" daylight. The United States went on "extended daylight savings time" colse to 1975.

Day Light Savings

Daylight savings time keeps the daylight for when we want it - during the time that we are active at work and school. It is most base in temperate regions, because of the great dissimilarity in the amount of daylight versus darkness throughout the seasons in these regions.

Is daylight savings time as a matter of fact necessary, though? Does it as a matter of fact help us if it starts to get light covering at 7am rather than 8am, etc.? One of the major reasons for daylight savings time does not have to do with peoples' preferences at all. Rather, one of the major reasons for daylight savings time is for vigor conservation.

In theory, residential electricity use is reduced because of daylight savings time - the amount of electricity that people use at home is contingent upon when the sun sets. If the sun sets closer to the time a someone goes to bed, that someone will not need to use as much electricity as he would if the sun set long before he went to bed.

People tend to go to bed at the same time all year round. Therefore, if we artificially move the sunset one hour later, a someone will need to use less vigor in the summer - he will not need to keep the lights on as long just because it is dark covering if he is in bed.

The need for morning lighting in the winter is also important. during the summer, people ordinarily wake up after the sunrises no matter what - the days are simply longer. during the winter, though, people are only likely to wake up after the sunrises if the time of that sunrise is artificially changed by daylight savings time.

Daylight savings also allows an increase in opportunities for outdoor activities. It is leading that people get out and do something and remain active, even during the winter months, and it helps if it is still light covering when they want to be outside.

Daylight savings is also good because it is light covering when people drive home from work - there is less of a opportunity of accidents when the drivers can see best because of the light. There is also the opportunity that daylight savings time reduces crime (it reduces that opportunity that a someone will be the target of crimes that are more ordinarily committed in dark areas).

Of course, not all people have good things to say about daylight savings time. In fact, daylight savings time is not acceptable universally. There are many places that do not as a matter of fact observer daylight savings. Many people do not like have to adjust their clocks twice a year for so few perceived benefits. Other people do not like the disruptions in sleep patterns from setting the clock forward or back - this as a matter of fact correlates with auto accidents and lost productivity. Also, some people simply forget to change their clocks and they may show up late or early to work, etc.

Also, daylight savings time may add to an increase in summertime air conditioning costs. More sunlight at home means that people are also experiences more heat at home. Air conditioning often uses even more electricity than lighting does.

There is also the opportunity that because of the added daylight, more people are going to jump in their cars to enjoy it, and therefore add to pollution.

Also, people working in agriculture do not appreciate daylight savings time - their animals most as a matter of fact do not examine it!

There are many more reasons why people do not like daylight savings time. Many of the reasons that people criticize daylight savings time are the same reasons that people praise it - there is turn over over whether or not daylight savings time as a matter of fact decreases the vigor that people use or the amount of traffic accidents. There are many more experiments that must be run before it can be decided exactly how good of an idea daylight savings time as a matter of fact is.
