Daylight Savings Times - Why We Have It, Why We Should Have It, Why We Should Not

Daylight savings time - we have all heard of it. Most of us participate in it... But what exactly is daylight savings time, and why do we have it?

Daylight savings time was started so that we could "save" daylight. The United States went on "extended daylight savings time" colse to 1975.

Day Light Savings

Daylight savings time keeps the daylight for when we want it - during the time that we are active at work and school. It is most base in temperate regions, because of the great dissimilarity in the amount of daylight versus darkness throughout the seasons in these regions.

Is daylight savings time as a matter of fact necessary, though? Does it as a matter of fact help us if it starts to get light covering at 7am rather than 8am, etc.? One of the major reasons for daylight savings time does not have to do with peoples' preferences at all. Rather, one of the major reasons for daylight savings time is for vigor conservation.

In theory, residential electricity use is reduced because of daylight savings time - the amount of electricity that people use at home is contingent upon when the sun sets. If the sun sets closer to the time a someone goes to bed, that someone will not need to use as much electricity as he would if the sun set long before he went to bed.

People tend to go to bed at the same time all year round. Therefore, if we artificially move the sunset one hour later, a someone will need to use less vigor in the summer - he will not need to keep the lights on as long just because it is dark covering if he is in bed.

The need for morning lighting in the winter is also important. during the summer, people ordinarily wake up after the sunrises no matter what - the days are simply longer. during the winter, though, people are only likely to wake up after the sunrises if the time of that sunrise is artificially changed by daylight savings time.

Daylight savings also allows an increase in opportunities for outdoor activities. It is leading that people get out and do something and remain active, even during the winter months, and it helps if it is still light covering when they want to be outside.

Daylight savings is also good because it is light covering when people drive home from work - there is less of a opportunity of accidents when the drivers can see best because of the light. There is also the opportunity that daylight savings time reduces crime (it reduces that opportunity that a someone will be the target of crimes that are more ordinarily committed in dark areas).

Of course, not all people have good things to say about daylight savings time. In fact, daylight savings time is not acceptable universally. There are many places that do not as a matter of fact observer daylight savings. Many people do not like have to adjust their clocks twice a year for so few perceived benefits. Other people do not like the disruptions in sleep patterns from setting the clock forward or back - this as a matter of fact correlates with auto accidents and lost productivity. Also, some people simply forget to change their clocks and they may show up late or early to work, etc.

Also, daylight savings time may add to an increase in summertime air conditioning costs. More sunlight at home means that people are also experiences more heat at home. Air conditioning often uses even more electricity than lighting does.

There is also the opportunity that because of the added daylight, more people are going to jump in their cars to enjoy it, and therefore add to pollution.

Also, people working in agriculture do not appreciate daylight savings time - their animals most as a matter of fact do not examine it!

There are many more reasons why people do not like daylight savings time. Many of the reasons that people criticize daylight savings time are the same reasons that people praise it - there is turn over over whether or not daylight savings time as a matter of fact decreases the vigor that people use or the amount of traffic accidents. There are many more experiments that must be run before it can be decided exactly how good of an idea daylight savings time as a matter of fact is.

A Touch of Personal Guilt With an Early Daylight saving Time

Why did Daylight recovery Time (Dst) have to start in mid-March? The ground is still frozen, in some areas, winter has not completely gone!

There is Sad, Seasonal Adjusted Disease when we turn back the clock, when days are shorter and nights are absolutely longer. We don't see enough daylight. Dst has its own disorder for me. With the early start of Dst, I feel a touch guilty about not enjoying the extra daylight constructively. This is a Dst Guilt Trip.

Day Light Savings

It means less daylight in the morning and more in the evenings. This is supposed to give us all that extra sunlight to do things. Isn't that wonderful. As with all things in life, there is a pro and a con. There are differing schools of thought. Daylight recovery was first suggested in 1895. It was the First World War that encouraged some countries like the United States, Germany and United Kingdom to adopt the idea. But, some countries abolished it after the war. Today, it is here to stay. There is still on-going debate about the advantages and disadvantages of Dst.

Society has learned to live with turning the clock backward in the Fall and transmit in the Spring. That was good when I was working. Longer evenings gave me more time after work. More time for public activities, more time with the house and more chores get done.

But now in retirement, the day seem to last too long with the early start of Dst. It is just one hour difference, but after dinner, it seems to be a long stretch to bedtime. The sun is still out, watching television does not feel right. However, there is still a chill in the air, this does not encourage me to take a walk after dinner. There are enough hours while the day to get at my chores, indulge in my hobbies, run errands and pursue other interests. Sitting nearby while the day is not for me. The rhythm of my life feels disrupted with longer days in mid-March. I feel guilty being unable to fill in the hours of daylight left after dinner. Who precisely benefits from this early start?

So why should I feel guilty sitting nearby when the sun is still bright? I write in the morning when the world nearby me feels fresh and my mind is clearer. In the winter months, evenings are longer and this inspires me to do some writing after supper or play the piano. But with Dst, darkness falls long after dinner. I am prone to fret about what to do for a consolidate of hours.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem putting in a productive, creative day. It is how to fill the few hours of daylight. Too early to conclude down with a book, too inspiring to watch television, chores and errands are done, so what to do? It won't be till mid April that it starts to feel like Spring has sprung. It is time to get the outdoor furniture ready, and fire up the grill. And of course, the organery beckons. But till then, Dst sets me off on a guilt trip.

Windows Vista - Time Servers, Synchronisation and Time Zone advice

It can be verily annoying. You have just got off the plane, booted up your lap top and set the clock to local time. Yet all your appointments suddenly move, not just the ones on that side of the ocean either, when you return home and reset the clock the appointments refuse to go back.

This problem occurs because of the way a computer handles time. In general computers ignore time zones and base their time on Utc (Coordinated Universal Time) the international time standard.

Day Light Savings

Time can cause havoc with computers, not just with lap tops either. Computers all over the world need to be telling the same time particularly if they have to perform time sensitive transactions or need to keep their networks secure.

Most computer networks use Ntp servers (Network Time Protocol) to keep synchronized. Ntp time servers use an Utc timing reference either from the Internet or from a radio or Gps transmission. A Utc timing reference originally comes from an atomic clock and is as accurate as humanely possible.

When travelling abroad it is good guidance Not to adjust the system clock as your computer (and its associated programs such as Outlook) stores all time in Utc form and only offsets for a particular time zone (So in France the time is Utc+1 while in the Us (Est) it becomes Utc-6.

However there are several features on Windows Vista that can make retention track of the time a lot easier for travelers.

To keep track of the time zone you are travelling to, windows Vista can display more than one clock in the task bar (up to three).

To enable multiple clocks to be displayed plainly double click on the time display in the system tray (bottom-right corner), click the' change date and time settings tab' to bring up a date and time" dialog box, click additional Clocks tab, tick the check-box of Show this clock, go for the time-zone of the clock, enter the display name and click Ok button.

Next time your mouse pointer goes over the system tray your new clock should be displayed also the traditional (which should be larger).

The clocks can also be located on the Windows sidebar although this can use precious processing power.
Another useful application in Windows Vista is being able to synchronise the system clock with a Utc time source.

Vista already comes equipped with a Ntp assistance called Windows Time assistance (w32tm.exe) which can synchronise to a Utc time source over the Internet. To do this merely double click on the clock in the system tray and await the Internet Time tab. Click it an enter the name of the Utc server you wish to join together to (such as windows.time or nist.gov).

Vista can handle daylight savings time too. If the system clock (the main one not additional ones) is set to adjust for daylight rescue then the computer should automatically do it. However it must be noted that some countries in the same time zone do not convention daylight rescue hours so the accurate time should all the time be double checked.

Rapaport, December 15, 2010: Sotheby's Auction Hits a Record

Rapaport, December 15, 2010: Sotheby's Auction Hits a Record Video Clips. Duration : 3.40 Mins.

RAPAPORT... Online Christmas retail spending for the first 43 days of the November -- December 2010 holiday season has risen 12 percent to .82 billion, according to comScore. The most recent week (week ending December 12) reached .31 billion in spending, an increase of 12 percent versus the corresponding week in 2009. Monday, December 13, known as "Green Monday" (the second Monday in December when online spending has historically tended to peak), reached 4 million in spending, representing a 12 percent increase. As part of the comScore Holiday Shopping Survey, more than 500 consumers were asked about their holiday shopping for the season to date. When asked if they had already finished their holiday shopping, 35 percent of respondents indicated they had already purchased everything they intended to this season. Of the 65 percent who had not yet finished their shopping, 33 percent indicated their primary reason for not having finished yet was insufficient money available to purchase the gifts they wanted. 32 percent indicated they simply hadn't had enough time to finish shopping, while 11 percent said they were waiting to get better deals at the last minute and 6 percent said they enjoyed the thrill of last-minute shopping. "The reasons consumers give for not having finished their holiday shopping reveal some very important dynamics driving the retail industry today," said comScore chairman Gian Fulgoni. "The first is that we are offered a stark reminder that many ...

Self Resetting Digital Atomic Wall Clocks and Watches are Technologically developed

Digital atomic wall clocks and watches consist of a highlight which automatically updates the clock's time once a day, so you never have to worry about it. Atomic wall clocks are so definite that there are even six digit models displaying hours, minutes and seconds, definite to the second.

Manufacturers supply them both with faces as analog atomic clocks, and with Lcds (liquid crystal displays) as digital atomic clocks. The use of the word 'atomic' refers to the atomic nature of the timing which uses a semiconductor crystal. Don't be concerned though about radiation emissions, as there is nothing radioactive in them, despite the name.

Day Light Savings

Every atomic wall clock is radio controlled and updates the time it shows automatically daily, and this makes them definite to one second per day, which means you'll never have to worry about setting the time again. With an atomic wall clock, that stress will be a thing of the past - just remember to replace the batteries periodically.

By automatically resetting, atomic wall clocks put an end to that potentially risky situation for busy people, where your clock is showing the wrong time.

Atomic wall clocks come in a wide variety of designs and I have a model which even though the lights are out, shows me exactly what time it was thanks to light emitting hands.

Atomic clocks even reset themselves for Daylight Savings Time.

These self-setting atomic wall clocks can often b bought with large liquid crystal (Lcd) displays in either 12 or 24 hour versions.

Atomic watches allow for the ultimate in convenience, and the so called 'atomic time' comes with optional alarm and snooze functions just as for alternative type timepieces.

Atomic Weather Clocks

Several atomic weather clock models are available that consist of a remote sensor to display outdoor temperature.

There are models of Atomic Wall Clock with forecast and climatic characteristic displays from a built-in thermometer to display the both outdoor and indoor temperatures. For ultimate ease in setting these devices up, it comes with a wireless remote sensor to entrance the outdoor temperature, without recourse to wiring.

The La Crosse Xg-55 goes even additional and is a digital adventure watch that's also a thermometer, weather forecaster, chronograph, and countdown timer as well as a dual time watch with calendar and two daily alarms.

Battery

Despite the sophisticated technology housed within these clocks, they do not draw a high power. Most of these clocks are battery powered and fully wireless. So with an atomic clock just like an commonplace clock, you can place it approximately anywhere. Smaller Atomic clocks will operate on one Aa alkaline battery (not commonly included with your purchase) with a normal life of about one year.

Conclusion

Atomic wall clocks can be elegant or functional and can supply other services, along with climatic characteristic measurement. However, they all have one thing in tasteless in that the time never needs resetting, s long as the battery is all the time charged. An Atomic Wall Clock is all the time worth considering when you are choosing a new clock as an attractive, affordable atomic clock model can commonly be found to your taste, which will give you the most reliable time, and in expanding will go well in any room of your home or office.

Entry from: Loire Valley, France Entry Title: "French chateaux and countryside" Entry: "I took a bus tour to visit the castles of the Loire Valley. Left Paris at 7:15am and had a 3 ¾ hour drive to our first stop. There were travellers from Australia, France, Spain and Japan. My high school Japanese came in handy along the way, as did the Spanish I have picked up from concentrating on Dora the Explorer when the kids watch it at school! Along the way we saw farms, fields full of the yellow plant that has the seed used in canola oil, forests and the Loire River. At 11am we arrived at Chenonceau and we were guided around the inside. Then we had free time to look at the gardens and go through the maze. The castle was being restored at the front so unfortunately could only get photos from one side, luckily it was the best side and the one I had hoped for. Next we drove to Cheverny where we looked inside, around the gardens and at the kennels. This was the only Chateaux that currently has a family in residence, so we could only see half of the building. Finally we drove to Chambord which was the most magnificent of them all! It really looked and felt like a castle from a fairytale. I got so camera happy, as you can see from all the pictures. We departed at 5:15pm and arrived back in Paris at 8:15pm. Daylight ...

Daylight Savings Time nearby The Globe

Trying to shape out what time it is in dissimilar parts of the world can be very confusing. Especially, if it's one of those times while the year when you are on daylight savings time, and the place whose time you're trying to imagine is not. A situation like this happens because dissimilar countries make their daylight and proper time changes on many dissimilar dates. In fact, there are only a relatively few countries, like most of the European countries, that make these time changes together.

In this narrative we'll talk about the dissimilar daylight savings times colse to the globe. We'll talk about some unique ways the time changes are implemented and how geography plays a roll in daylight savings time.

Day Light Savings

Dst is Law in the U.S.

In 2005, a law was passed in the United States standardizing the spring and fall time changes. This law, for the first time in history, mandated time changes throughout the country. Before it was passed, there were many places that didn't eye daylight savings time. One of these places was Indianapolis.

Also, some other towns and cities in Indiana stayed on proper time all year. Because of this, a drive straight through this state while daylight savings time required a lot of clock changing because to additional complicate the matter, Indianapolis spans two time zones.

Now, however, Indianapolis will set its clocks ahead on the second Sunday in March and then back again on the first Sunday in November. This is the same as any other place else in the United States. The only exceptions are in Indian territories. They are not governed by the new law.

Dst in Australia

There are other countries that still have areas observing daylight savings time and areas that don't. Australia is such a country. In the area known as Queensland and other called the Northern Territory, they don't pay any attentiveness to it, but on the mainland, daylight savings time begins on the last Sunday in October and ends on the last Sunday in March.

To we Northern Hemisphere-ians, this seems odd because as our summer is ending; below the equator, their summer is just starting. Therefore, it stands to reason, as our daylight savings time ends, theirs will be just starting or in some cases, has already begun.

Dst in the Middle of the Week

Another thing unique about the dissimilar time changes colse to the globe is the fact some countries choose to make them on a date, instead of a weekend. One such country is Egypt. Here, daylight savings time starts on May 1st and ends on September 30th. This means the "spring ahead" time changes occur most often on weekdays. So, when this happens, habitancy go to work with one less hour of sleep! I wonder how many habitancy call in sick the years May 1st falls on a Monday?

Though knowing what time it is in any place in the world is always a monumental task, it is compounded by the dissimilar periods in which daylight savings time is observed in dissimilar countries. Still, the industrialized world realizes there are many advantages to daylight savings time.

The biggest advantage, which no one seems to argue about, is the fact it saves energy. History tells us the first someone to make this consideration was Benjamin Franklin. He noted that production use of the later daylight periods of the summer months would save candles. So, this goes to show us, the idea of daylight savings time, as an economic advantage is not new. However, at this time in history when energy is in great demand, turning the clocks ahead one hour in the spring is more foremost than ever.

Steps In rescue A relationship

Saving a relationship should always begin with the awareness that something is going wrong in the relationship. This is a very essential first step because many habitancy who are in a relationship always have a blind eye on the status of their relationships. We have heard stories of habitancy discounting the fact that their relationship is in jeopardy, not acknowledging the confident fact that they've lost excitement or interest in their relationship.

The fact that you acknowledge the rocky status of the relationship is the first step. However, you still have a long way to go in order to save a relationship. Here are some pointers to help you save the relationship which was once so vibrant and exciting.

Day Light Savings

First you need to identify the dilemma confronting you and your partner. What was the root cause of the problem? Did person cheat? Is monetary concern troubling your partnership? There are also instances when the problems are not the obvious. Maybe your partner has become disinterested with the relationship, or you are troubled with how your partner has looked like in new months.

After identifying the problem, you need to make it known to your partner. Many habitancy fall for the trap of simply ignoring the problem even after they've identified the cause of their rocky relationship. Tell him or her what you think is the problem affecting your partnership. Your essential other might be surprised of your assessment, and even help you in sorting the real cause of the problem. If you open transportation lines there's a good occasion that you can fix your relationship as soon as possible.

Then you and your partner should decide on the course of action. Any problem has a solution, remember that as long as you open the transportation lines with your partner you can always come up with a explication on the said problem. For example, if your partner does not like you flirting with other habitancy then its best to stop going out with other individuals. You might also want to stop talking with habitancy your partner is not comfortable with.

Make promises but be sure you can fulfill them. Promises should be your final way of concretizing anything solutions you've come up. If you promise to do something, then do it. always keep your word! This way, both of you can be assured of a more salutary and happy relationship.

Daylight Savings Time - It's New follow on Canadian It systems

This Sunday, March 11th, Canada and the other parts of the world will prepare not to spring ahead but take a leap forward. Daylight Savings Time will hit us four weeks earlier that what we have been used to in the past due to a convert passed in the United States to expand the period of the time that daylight savings time is in effect. Daylight Savings Time will now be in supervene from the second Sunday in March to the First Sunday in November.

Why the convert and why now? The biggest imagine is that Dst saves energy. Originally introduced in Germany nearby World War I, fellowships and factories could offer natural light as a lighting source instead of using costly artificial light. In the early 1900's implementing an early Dst means businesses use less electricity and vigor because natural light is extended by one hour when they need it the most - at the end of the enterprise day.

Day Light Savings

The Us Congress passed the vigor procedure Act in July 2005 and signed by Us President George W. Bush in August 2005 which included the postponement of Daylight Savings Time beginning March 11, 2007.

In Canada, setting of time is a provincial accountability and the majority of the provinces have followed the United States in adopting the new daylight savings time changes, from a enterprise perspective, it just makes sense. The Us is one of our biggest trading partners, and why would we not supervene their example? Over 70 countries across the world peruse daylight savings time as a acceptable practice.

What areas in Canada are affected by this change? The usual provinces that have observed Daylight Savings Time in the past will continue this practice, and those provinces that traditionally have not will continue this practice. The areas in Canada that do not peruse Dst are Saskatchewan (Central time year round), some areas of British Columbia - Fort St. John and Dawson Creek in the north and Creston in the south (Pacific Time in Summer). There are other small pockets in Quebec and Ontario that do not peruse Dst as well as some border towns along the time zone boundaries. Just to add to the confusion nearby the change, most provinces convert nearby 2 am on the Sunday. Newfoundland and Labrador convert right after midnight. Consult with National investigate Council website for more facts to see how your area of the country is affected.

What does all this mean to the It business in Canada? It Professionals will be busy ensuring that all systems that use time and scheduling are patched with the rules for the new dates and times for the Dst changes. The majority of software and hardware vendors now have patches ready to ensure that their software is compliant with these new changes. Patching of all systems will be a time keen event and needs to be started by now.

The majority of software vendors do have updates and patches ready for their software, it is recommended that you check their websites to ensure that you have the newest updates or consult with a trained It expert in your area to ensure that your enterprise is covered.

Business owners who are unsure what systems they need to patch or modernize to ensure that they are ready for the changes this weekend need to contact their systems administrator today to ensure that all of their systems are ready to go on Sunday. The effects of this convert may cause safety systems, scheduling software, appointments and other time tracking systems will be out of sync with the real time.

For the next few weeks, my suggestion is that you verify all your appointments to ensure that you are on the right time and you don't show up early or late because of a shift in Dst and dealing with updated or not updated computer systems.

Make 2008 A Year of schooling Because Crime Doesn't Pay for Organizations

Let's face it: We live in an unpredictable and often scary world.

Imagine yourself in a crowded holiday parking lot. You slip into a spot, and suddenly - unexpectedly - find yourself engaged in a shouting match with a driver who was headed for the same space. Encounters like this can turn violent in seconds. Most every person has been complicated in an unexpected encounter with a stranger. But few know what to do when a fleeting taste blows up into full conflict.

Day Light Savings

Companies that have employees or customers who are victims of crime (no matter if it's on their property or not) stand to lose money in several ways. From lost workdays to fines to lawsuit payouts, companies that don't take the extra step to make sure habitancy are safe can pay dearly. "Training helps to preclude injury, claims against employers and time away from work as well as high-priced verdicts against employers that have ignored these issues. Training also helps to operate risk supervision and sell out insurance costs," notes Kimberly Elliott, Ceo of menagerial Defense Technology, Llc of St Louis, Mo.

Organizations realize that employees who trip alone on company business, walk through parking garages to get to their cars, leave the company with money to deposit or work ate late are all susceptible to crime. From burglary to rape to murder, employees and customers can be victims of a collection of crimes. "Through education, training and planning, employees can minimize their risks to crime," Elliott states. "Simple procedures can save lives and knowledge is power! If we are not taught how to sell out our chances of becoming victims, then we come to be easy targets. The honest truth is we don't take action because we think that it couldn't happen to us or our company and unfortunately, it ordinarily takes a crime to happen before habitancy and companies wake up."

"Smoke Detector Saves family of Seven," "Crash Survivors Wore Seat belts" the headlines read. It's heartwarming when we learn of habitancy whose lives were saved by taking straightforward measures such as changing the batteries in their smoke detector during daylight savings time or buckling up. Sadly, though these same newspapers are more often filled with accounts of lives and livelihoods lost to crime and acts of violence that could have been prevented had their victims taken common-sense measures to avoid becoming targets. We don't think twice about routinely changing batteries or having our automobiles inspected because we know that our protection is at stake. Likewise, we should make each year reviews of our corporate and personal crime prevention and protection programs a routine.

We need to make our own personal protection a value in our corporate lives. Many organizations do see protection as a priority. Yet, as humans, we know that, like life, priorities convert with time. That's why protection and health must come to be a personal and organizational Value. This needs to be a Value that is believed in from the "top" down. Values, unlike priorities, do not change.

Executive Defense Technology holds several educational workshops a week to teach individuals how to avoid (and if need be - physically escape) potentially perilous situations and boost self confidence. Individuals who share in these workshops learn a plethora of beneficial, long-lasting skills. "This agenda emphasizes that ninety percent of anti-victimization and self defense is about awareness, risk allowance and avoiding confrontation and only ten percent is physical," Elliott said. The presenters of the program, Larry Elliott and Paul Schmitz, have degrees in criminal justice and offer a unique perspective on protection by sharing their years of taste dealing with the "criminal mind" as probation and parole officers. They are fascinating and consistently "connect" with their audience.

Examples of organizations that should assist their employees with crime awareness and protection seminars are health care entities, group workers, attorney firms, hotels, real estate agents, stock brokerage firms, media groups, schools and any retail making ready that is visited by customers. Again, the most perilous attitude any of us can have is "it won't happen o me".

In today's volatile society, making protection classes a mandatory part of persisting education, Eap programs, corporate meetings, lunch and learn schooling or new hire training, is leading for the betterment of the assosication that is providing the training and the overall well being of its laborer base.

How to Stop a Smoke Alarm From Chirping

Are you a victim of a beeping smoke detector? If you are I can tell you that there is a 95% opportunity that all you have to do is turn the battery in the smoke detector, if yours is battery operated that is. Most new smoke detectors these days will come battery operated, hard-wired, or a compound of both. If you buy a fairly new smoke alarm then there is a good opportunity that it is whether a 9 volt battery operated smoke detector or a hard-wired smoke detector.

To stop the beeping you must unhook the hard-wire if applicable, and take off the battery. After you take off the battery push the test button, this will reset the detector, after that just insert a fresh battery and test again. This will solve the qoute in most cases.

Day Light Savings

There are some instances where this will be distinct though. Some smoke detectors are a compound of detecting not only fire smoke but carbon monoxide. These are practically all the time powered by 120 volt and a battery back up in case of a power failure.

A good rule of thumb is to have a smoke alarm for every room in your home, and you should also have one installed in every hall way that is in your home. It would not hurt to put one in your garage either, if you have one that is. Remember if there is some tragedy that happens to break free you are not going to have that long to talk especially if you are sleeping. There are also many instances where fires will knock out the power to a home, this is why battery back up is so important to have.

You should not keep a smoke detector in the kitchen though as if you like to cook, it will practically go off every time you over cook the turkey in the over. Instead there are other devices that you can use for fire safety in the kitchen such as range queens, which are designed to put out oil fires and will not go off naturally because food is being over cooked.

Make sure that you replace the batteries in your smoke detector 2 times a year. Some people are trained to do this every time the clocks go send or go back, so when it is day light savings time, then it is time to turn the batteries, you might as well play it safe.

Most new smoke alarms use 9 volt batteries. If you turn the batteries and it is still chirping once a minute, then it may be time for you to replace the smoke detector, as this should be done every 10 years, do not let them hang nearby in your home any longer than that.

Remember smoke alarms are very low maintenance, as long as you turn the battery in them twice a year, test them once a month by pushing the test button, replace them after 10 years and do not paint over them, they should do their job of holding your home and your house safe.

With the End of Day Light Savings Time, Beat Seasonal Affective Disorder Sad

With seasonal changes and the clock being set back for the end of day light savings time it is natural for individuals in the northern hemisphere to feel the turn in your mood. As days get shorter and darkness more plentiful, do you feel slowed down or unmotivated to wake up? Quite possibly, you just feel down in the dumps. What you may be experiencing is seasonal changes in mood and behavior, also known as seasonality.

Affecting an estimated 6% of the U.S. Population, seasonality can honestly cause a great deal of distress and difficulties in functioning, both at work and in one's personal life. An individual suffering from such a turn is said to be suffering from seasonal affective disorder or Sad-a condition now widely standard by the healing society and public at large. Not to be confused with a full depression diagnosis, Sad is a mood disorder associated with depressive episodes and associated to seasonal variations of light.

Day Light Savings

Symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder (Sad)
include:

· Depression

· Fatigue or loss of energy

· Overeating

· Lack of sex drive

· Anxiety and irritability

· mystery concentrating or processing information

· A craving for sugary/starchy foods

These symptoms must be ordinarily occurring during the fall and winter months, and must also be gift for two years prior to diagnosis.

Do you notice subtle changes in your mood, but maybe not drastic enough to seek professional help? You may be experiencing a lesser form of Sad, known as the "winter blues." This condition can make you feel less cheerful, energetic, creative, and efficient during the dark winter days than at other times of the year.

Why do you get Sad?

As the season changes, there is a shift in our "biological clocks" partly in response to the changes in sunlight patterns. The shift can cause our biological clocks to fall out of step with our daily schedules. Individuals experiencing Seasonal Affective Disorder have a difficult time adjusting to the shortage of sunlight in the winter months. Sad symptoms are most pronounced in January and February when the days are shortest.

Melatonin (a sleep-related hormone) sometimes referred to as the "master biological clock," has been associated to Sad. It is secreted by the pineal gland in the brain. This hormone is believed to cause symptoms of depression and is produced at increased levels in the dark. So, when the days are shorter and darker, the production of this hormone increases.

Those at risk:
Young population and women are at the top risk for the disorder, but it can work on anyone. They do not feel bad enough to seek healing attention, but they feel less cheerful in the fall and winter. Sad typically begins colse to the age of 20 and decreases colse to the age of 50.

College freshmen with a history of problematic seasonal changes are also at a higher risk for developing Sad. The first year of college is full of changes that may contribute to developing Sad.

There are other factors that are believed to growth your risk of developing Sad. Three key factors that may lead to the onset of Sad are identified below:

1. Potential vulnerability studies - show that Sad runs in families with a history of different types of depression along with Sad.

2. Light deprivation - changes in latitude and season resulting in decreased exposure to light can negatively work on mood.

3. Stress - an increased level of stress is associated with the onset of Sad.

Coping with the winter blues.

Change the environment:
· "Light up your life"- take off drapes from windows, paint walls brighter colors, or setup full spectrum lamps.
· Keep warm - turn up the heat, use electric blankets, or enjoy a warm drink such as hot chocolate.

Exercise:

· regular aerobic activity such as running or walking.

· Make sure the activity is something you'll enjoy so you're more likely to stick to it.

· Find a friend to rehearsal with you for reserve and added motivation.
Diet:

· Fight bad foods with good foods.

· Eat more complicated carbohydrates (cereal, pasta, nuts) rather than uncomplicated carbs (candy or cookies).

· Snacks are okay-as many as three times per day-but make them low calorie (apples, celery, carrots, dried fruits, or popcorn).

Top ten ways to avoid the winter blues:

1. Pay concentration to your moods and power levels. If you comprehend that your spirits begin to sink at the end of summer, take pre-emptive action. A good offense is better than after-the-fact defense.

2. Try to originate a thinking set that will help you to enjoy the wintertime. It is going to happen, so focus on enjoying it.

3. Plan active events for yourself in expand of the fall.

4. Expose yourself to as much spirited light as you can. Walk outdoors on sunny days, even during the winter months. If it is gray and overcast, use as much light indoors as you can.

5. growth the whole of light in your home, apartment, or room. Position furniture so the windows are not blocked, open blinds and/or curtains. Places that are heavily shaded by trees block sunlight.

6. Stay physically active and begin your bodily activity before the winter blues begin to set in. bodily rehearsal helps relieve stress and anxiety which can accentuate Sad. Being more fit can make you feel better about yourself.

7. If possible, take a winter vacation or spring break in a sunny, warm location.

8. Learn more efficient ways to administrate stress.

9. Do something nice for yourself every day.

10. If you feel yourself sinking and comprehend you are losing control, don't feel ashamed or try to hide it. Remember that many population feel this way. Seek competent professional help. What you learn from this season, you can probably do for yourself in all the falls and winters to come.

Psychotherapy helps you recognize and modify negative thoughts and behaviors that may play a role in bringing about symptoms of Sad. You and your consultant may also talk about ways to cut stress in your life.

If you think you may have Sad, discuss your symptoms with a physician or thinking condition professional.

With the End of Day Light Savings Time, Beat Seasonal Affective Disorder Sad
